ms Zuiderdam Cruises

ms Zuiderdam entered service in 2002 as the first of Holland America’s four Vista Class ships, named for the extensive use of glass throughout and embracing the very latest environmental technologies. She has since been joined by sister ships ms Oosterdam, ms Westerdam and ms Noordam, each of their names depicting the four directions of the compass in Dutch. more info ›

Fully upgraded in 2005 to incorporate Holland America’s Signature of Excellence features and further refurbished in 2008, Zuiderdam’s 11 passenger decks are packed with world-class facilities and amenities for the whole family. During the day you can workout in the state-of-the-art fitness centre, learn yoga, take a dip in a choice of two outdoor pools, one with sliding glass roof, pamper yourself at the Greenhouse Spa & Salon, check your email in the Explorations Café, or take in a cooking class from Master Chefs at the Culinary Arts Centre demonstration kitchen, there is a perfect onboard activity for everyone. For kids there’s Club HAL® for 3-12 year olds plus The Loft designed exclusively for teens (13 - 17) to hang out with people their own age and a video arcade.

She currently has three main restaurants including the splendid main Vista Dining room for a formal five-course affair, the intimate reservation-only Pinnacle Grill offering a sophisticated dining experience and the Lido Restaurant offering a relaxed, more casual option plus 24-hour in-room dining. A fourth dining venue - the speciality Canaletto Italian Restaurant is due to open in March 2010. After dinner head for one of the numerous bars and lounges, take in a show at either the three-storey Vista Show Lounge or Queen’s Lounge, try your luck at the casino, take in a movie at the cinema and end the night with a dance at the Crow's Nest nightclub offering sweeping 270° views out to sea.

Zuiderdam has a guest capacity of 1,916, a length of 935ft and a gross tonnage of 82,305. Her maiden voyage was December 2002 and she cruises at a comfortable speed of 24knots/27mph.

Dining

The main restaurant aboard Zuiderdam is "Vista Dining Room" where you can choose from a delicious menu of fine cuisine. For something a little less formal then you could try "Lido Restaurant", "Terrace Grill" and "Lido Buffet" which is open 24 hours so you don’t have to worry about getting hungry later on in the evening. Speciality dining comes in the form of "Pinnacle Grill" which offers the finest steak and seafood, with a sophisticated atmosphere and "Canaletto" is the on-board Italian Restaurant.

Leisure

There are plenty of activities for people of every age aboard Zuiderdam. There are two swimming pools available and two whirlpools, or if you fancy just simply soaking up the sun then there is plenty of deck space with loungers available. Zuiderdam features a shopping arcade named the ‘Signature Shops" where you can grab a duty free bargain from alcohol to clothes – this shopping arcade has it all. Zuiderdam has her own Fitness Centre with state-of-the- art resistant machines, free weights, plus Aerobics, Pilates and Circuit Training classes are available. There is also a running track and sports courts where you can play tennis and basketball. The internet is perfect for keeping in touch with loved ones back home and there are lectures available to learn all about the ports in which you will be visiting during your cruise.

Entertainment

Whether you like to watch a show, dance to lively music or just simply unwind with a drink in a relaxing atmosphere, there is an entertainment venue aboard Zuiderdam to suit everyone. The "Vista Lounge" is where you’ll find the latest shows, comedians and cabaret. ’Crow’s Nest’ is the on-board disco with lively music and a huge dance floor and for a quieter and refined atmosphere you can choose from; ’Piano Bar’, ’Pinnacle Bar’ and "Sea View Bar". The "Casino" on-board is great for those who want to play; Black Jack, Craps, Poker, Texas Hold’em and there is also plenty of slot machines available.

Relaxation

Treat yourself to a day of pampering in the "Greenhouse Spa & Salon" where you can choose from treatments such as; facials, hot stone massage, steam in a thermal suite plus, manicures and hair styling.

The library is available for anyone who enjoys a quiet atmosphere with a book and a cup of coffee and the art gallery is home to outstanding pieces of art all in a peaceful atmosphere.

Family

The Zuiderdam offers an age appropriate kids programme jam-packed full of fun activities. "Club Hal" is where you will find fun for the 5-8 year olds with activities including arts and crafts, bingo, ice-cream parties and more! Those aged 9-12 can take part in dance classes, karaoke and treasure hunts, and the teenagers favourite hang-out is "The Loft" with a dance floor, lounge area and televisions. Zuiderdam also has a baby-sitting service just in-case one evening you want to enjoy an evening to yourselves.

Medical & Accessibility

Just in case of emergencies there are two qualified doctors and three nurses on board your ship 24 hours a day. There is also a pharmacy on-board with common supplies although it is advisable to bring any special medication with you during your cruise.Zuiderdam is extremely accommodating for guests with special requirements. She has fully equipped staterooms, accessible lifts and wider corridors for wheelchair users. There is braille around the ship to make it easier for those passengers who are visually impaired and Zuiderdam also uses alert monitors for those people with hearing impediments.
