At the time of entering service in 1998, Grand Princess was the largest, most expensive ship ever built and the first member of Princess Cruises "Grand Class" of liners. Her mantle of world’s largest ship has long since gone, but she is Princess Cruises flagship and will always be known as the pioneer for today’s huge mega ships. There are five restaurants onboard including two Anytime dining rooms, a traditional dining room, plus a speciality Italian and speciality Steakhouse restaurant. In addition there is a 24-hour buffet, pizzeria and hamburger grill plus a number of casual dining venues in a street café environment in the new piazza-style atrium. After dinner there is a wide variety of bars and lounges to choose from, three show lounges, the "Movies under the Stars" theatre with a giant cinema screen located poolside, one of the largest casino’s afloat and there’s always Skywalkers nightclub located 15 decks above the ocean. In terms of recreation she has four swimming pools including an all weather pool area with sliding glass roof plus a swim-against-the-current lap pool. She also has an ocean view fitness centre, sports court, nine-hole mini-golf course and golf simulator, jogging track and a wonderful two-storey indoor Fun Zone designed especially for kids. For relaxation the Japanese-themed Lotus Spa offers a complete escape.

In keeping with Princess Cruises "more balconies than any other cruise line" tag, Grand Princess has four full decks of staterooms with private balconies. In fact an incredible 80% of all outside staterooms have a private verandah.

Facts & Figures

Grand Princess has a guest capacity of 2,600 a length of 950ft and a gross tonnage of 109,000. Her maiden voyage was 26th May 1998 and she cruises to a speed of 22knots/25mph.

Not to be missed…Whilst on-board you must visit the virtual reality room which has a "blue screen" to create special background effects, allowing you to star your own film!

Dining

Whether you prefer the traditional dining of set times or flexible dining so you decide when you eat, Crown Princess accommodates for every taste. The main dining rooms are; "Botticelli Dining Room", "Da Vinci Dining Room" and "Michelangelo Dining Room" where you can choose from a selection of tasty dishes. If you had something specific in mind then the speciality restaurants on board are; "Sabatini’s Italian restaurant" serving the finest Italian cuisine, "Painted Desert" the on-board Steakhouse and "Ultimate Balcony Dining" which is a choice of luxury cuisine delivered right to your door. During the day there are plenty of places to grab a quick snack including; "The Ice Cream Bar", "Poseidon’s Pizzeria", "Trident Grill" for poolside hot dogs and burgers, "Horizon Court" is open 24 hours and is a buffet styled outlet serving sandwiches and nibbles.

Leisure

Grand Princess is designed to give you the cruise of a lifetime and is packed full of activities to keep you busy all day long. The ship is home to three swimming pools and five hot tubs, including a "swim against the tide" swimming pool to test your strength. There is a 9-hole putting course and golf simulator, a fully-equipped gym with all the latest machines, free weights and aerobics room, sports court, shuffleboard facilities, jogging track, library, writing room, an internet cafe so you can keep in touch with friends and family back home and there is even an art gallery with some of the world’s greatest art collections, where you can take part in an auction and grab yourself a bargain.

Entertainment

Grand Princess is home to a whole host of exceptional entertainment. There are three theatres on-board, "The Princess Theatre", "Vista Show Lounge" and "The Explorers Lounge", all providing big productions and Cabaret shows. "Movies under the Stars" is the on-board cinema showing the latest box office hits under the starry night sky. "Skywalkers" is a lively nightclub which lies 15 decks above sea level and if you fancy your hand at Blackjack, "Atlantis Casino" has everything you need for a great night of gambling. "Wheelhouse Bar" and "Promenade Bar" are the perfect place to go if you want to sit back and unwind with friends, alternatively if you fancy a game of snooker in a relaxed setting then "Snooker’s Cigar Bar" is the place to go.

Relaxation

Take a whole day out to spoil yourself with a set of treatments in the "Lotus Spa". There are plenty for you to choose from such as; youth enhancing facial, aroma stone therapy, cellulite reduction programme, muscle spa ocean wrap and acupuncture. There is even an on-board salon with a whole selection of beauty indulge in. Choose from; manicure, pedicure, teeth whitening, nail manicure, hair styling, hair colouring and barbering services.

Family

The kids on-board Grand Princess have their own dedicated area, with lots to do, see and discover, all in the care of fully trained professionals. There is an age appropriate programme for children aged 3-17. The young people’s section also includes an arcade full of video games, and has proved extremely popular with the teens. There are plenty of activities including; Karaoke, Board Games, Pizza Parties, and Pyjama Parties to name a few, so you can be assured that your children are having as much fun as you are aboard Grand Princess.

Medical & Accessibility

There is a well-equipped medical centre on-board Grand Princess, with medical supplies and the on-board doctors and nurses. If you need medical supplies then it would be advised to bring them with you for the journey. Grand Princess makes every effort to accommodate for wheelchair users, with all staterooms being wheelchair friendly. The hallways are wide and there are lifts all around the decks. If you have a hearing impairment then you will be provided with a TTY kit and the theatres have assisted listening devices. The ship also provides JAWS kits to accommodate for those that are visually impaired.
