The Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) has predicted consistent growth in the number of travellers choosing to cruises over the coming years, while also suggesting that cruise lines are set to invest more than 17.4 billion into the construction of 55 new ships between now and 2020.
However, as the demand for this unique type of holiday increases, the need for skilled workers will inevitably increase too. The search for new talent is perhaps the biggest challenge facing cruise agencies in the coming years, and apprenticeships offer the perfect way to introduce young, driven and dedicated people to the industry.

Cruise118.com currently employs three apprentices, and with National Apprenticeship Week running from the 14th to 18th March 2016, we spoke to one of our current apprentices, 18 year old Boris Krastev, who explained why he decided that this was the best career path for him.
“I have chosen to take the apprenticeship route because I don’t think college or university is for me, and rather than wasting my time on something I do not enjoy, I’d prefer to start a job – or an apprenticeship in this case.
“I chose the cruise ship industry because I have relatives that have been working on cruise ships, so it’s an area I already know something about. I’m hoping to get a lot of experience and vital skills that will help me to become successful.” Boris Krastev, Cruise118.com apprentice
Why do we hire apprentices?

Boris also added that finding an apprenticeship isn’t always easy without going through a specialist agency, but Cruise118.com’s Managing Director James Cole thinks that this is something which needs to change.
