We have recently returned from a Mediterranean cruise from Rome – Venice and although we worried about it being a small ship we needn’t have as it was wonderful.
Having travelled before with Celebrity this was a change for us, only 300 people on board and everyone was so friendly. The crew were amazing and couldn’t do enough for you.
We had a standard outside cabin with a window, we didn’t even miss having a balcony as you could be on deck so easily. The bed was lovely , we had flowers/fruit in the room and L’Occitaine toiletries. We could have whatever we wanted in our minibar, it was pure luxury.
Even though the ship was small there was still choices of where to eat, buffet at lunch and breakfast, a Bistro area called Stella and a couple of bars, also the Pool deck had candles around the tables at night so you could eat there. There was also a fined dining area called Amphora.
There was plenty of watersports if you wanted it, not our sort of thing but a lot of people did use them as there was a sports platform. There was also a Casino and a Pool, 2 Hot tubs and a Gym.
We wanted for nothing, the itinerary was lovely as we spent nearly all day in each port and really got to see where we were visiting.
What a lovely anniversary for us!!
This tall ship style rigged cruise gives all of the excitement of sailing combined with a chance of being involved with the rigging and some of the comforts of a cruise. The cabin was adequatel however quite comfortable for a 7 night sailing there were nice touches such as the daily fruit baskets and a lovely shower room. The atmosphere onboard is relaxed and friendly very country house hotel feeling and the crew were attentive we felt that we were all pulling together. The food was very good and had a variety of buffet and a la carte menus which would cater for all except the most picky among us. There was a small pool however the best part for me was the watersports marina with equipment such as sunfish a ski boat and some zodiacs and there were few onboard who did not like the idea of swimming in deep water. I really felt it had been a very luxurious way to do our summer sailing holiday.
My daughter and I usually sail with Silversea and Seabourn but we fancied a change this time, we came across Windstar Cruises by recommendation from a friend and it was very pleasant. The quality of the suite was higher than we first expected and the size of the vessel really does make it special, the staff on board make you feel like you have the ship to yourself, you can interact or be a private as you like and with Windstar being all inclusive, you can really indulge in their fantastic cuisine. All in all an option I would recommend if you’re a little unsure.
