Argostoli Cruises

The capital of Kefalonia, Argostoli boasts beautiful beaches, charming shops and historical attractions. Well known for its cultural heritage, in Argostoli you'll discover a number of historical monuments from the Greek, Venetian, Roman and Byzantine eras. A must see attraction is the ‘St. George Castle' which was built over 1,600 years ago and stands prominently on the edge of the Livatho valley. Whilst you're here you can visit two caves which were unearthed after an earthquake they had in 1953. 'Drogarati Cave' is thought to be more than 100 million years old and close by is the other cave, ‘Melissani' where you can even take a boat ride if you want to explore the cave more deeply. You'll find a great choice of beaches nearby as well if you want to spend a day relaxing on the warm sandy beach.

Lithostroto is the main shopping street of Argostoli. Good purchases in Argostoli include jewellery and locally made products, such as leather goods, sweets, pralines. Also popular with visitors is the 'Cephalonian thyme honey' - it's one of the best Greek honeys.

The local currency is the Euro. Argostoli is 2 hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT +2).
