Catania Cruises

Located on the eastern coast of Sicily; Catania is at the foot of the largest volcano in Europe -Mount Etna. A renowned port, Catania is Sicily's second largest city, after Palermo. A place rich in history, there's an endless list of fascinating places you can visit. And, as you wander through the city centre, you can take in the magnificent architecture, which has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Catania's Cathedral Square (Piazza del Duomo) has a central position in the city, and boasts fine views of Mount Etna. There are a number of archaeological sites including the Greek-Roman Theatre, which lies within the city, just by the Church of St. Francis of Assisi. There's also the Roman Thermal Baths, the Odeon and the Catanian Roman Amphitheatre.

Catania's street market is worth checking out. You'll find the market just off the long, main shopping street, ‘Via Etnea'. When it comes to buying souvenirs, there are a lot of souvenir shops in and around Catania. Popular purchases include ceramics and pottery.

The local currency is the Euro. Sicily is 1 hour ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT +1).
