Costa Maya is a port of call in the Mexican state of Quintana Roo and lies on the Caribbean Sea. This is a man-made port of call where you can sunbathe on the beach or enjoy a variety of shops, cafés and restaurants. During your time here you can take a stroll around the harbour front, venture out a little further and visit the Mayan ruins at Chacchoben which is set amongst a jungle and offers a very interesting excursion or, visit the small village of Xcalet where visitors can go snorkelling amongst shipwrecks, explore the quirky village of Mahahual which offers beautiful beaches and plenty of character.
As this is such a small port there are not a lot of shops available. You will find a few shops and boutiques at the harbour where you can purchase hand-crafted gifts, jewellery, leather goods, Mexican sombreros and woven rugs.
The local currency in Costa Maya is the Mexican Peso (MXN). Costa Maya is 8 hours behind Greenwich meantime (GMT-8).
