While it may be growing rapidly, the port of Great Harbour on Jost Van Dyke still retains a charming, peaceful atmosphere that makes it an idyllic escape for a quieter excursion day. Yet there are also some more active excursions available for those who seek excitement. There is only a small population on the island, with just a handful of families, and there’s no traffic either - keeping this archipelago completely pristine. On the shore, there are some delightful restaurants to sample, and some shops to explore, but don’t expect the usual tourist souvenirs – instead, more unique handicrafts made with real care are the order of the day, along with jewellery.
Some cruise lines may choose not to dock, but to use the magnificent bay of Great Harbour as a mooring point. Here you may be able to use your ship’s marina to enjoy water sports, perfect for taking advantage of the spectacular clear waters. Or if you do get to land, then there are plenty of opportunities for diving, windsurfing and more along the beaches.
The currency in Great Harbour is the US Dollar. Great Harbour is 4 hours behind Greenwich Mean Time (GMT -4).
