A gem of the Croatian coastline, Hvar is a charming location packed with amazing sights, great food and places to unwind. It’s a quaint, historic town with cobbled streets and many stone steps, so be sure to wear comfortable shoes when you’re out and about. It’s worth exploring the many attractions as they offer some incredible manmade beauty, including the stunning bell tower that forms part of Hvar Cathedral. Or head to the Franciscan monastery, built in the 15th century and home to a majestic Last Supper painting that measures 8 metres across.
Climb the steps to Fortica Spanjola, the castle on the top of the hill, and you’ll be rewarded with fantastic views down to the harbour and out over the ocean. When you get back into town, you can grab a light bite or enjoy a full gourmet menu at one of the many varied restaurants around the streets. If you want to hit the beach, it’s worth hopping on a water taxi to the Pakleni islets, with secluded sands that are ideal for relaxing or for taking a peaceful dip in the waters.
The Kuna is the official currency of Hvar. Hvar is 2 hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT +2).
