Isafjord, Iceland Cruises

Enjoy live at a magnificently sedate pace with a visit to the charming town of Isafjord in Iceland. Situated at the heart of the incredible Westfjords peninsula, this 9th century coastal town is the ideal base for exploring the surrounding mountains, inlets and islands to see a huge range of wildlife species. Seabirds are extremely popular here, whether you’re wandering the shore or taking a small boat cruise around the beautiful Vigur Island which is often home to puffins, terns and guillemots as well as Iceland’s only windmill. Make sure you bring your camera – even if you don’t get a great shot of the wildlife, the spectacular glaciers and mountains make for a wonderful photo opportunity.

The other main attraction of the town itself is its fishing heritage. You can wander along the harbour and watch the fishermen hard at work to haul in the catch of the day, before sampling delicious examples for yourself. And the Maritime Museum, made up of charming 18th century buildings, is home to a number of exhibits and artefacts that detail the history of the fishing industry in the area.

The currency in Isafjord is the Icelandic Krona. Isafjord observes Greenwich Mean Time (GMT +0).
