Kagoshima is situated at the southwest tip of the Kyushu island of Japan. With its gorgeous climate, palm tree-lined streets and wide avenues, Kagoshima is often called the “Naples of the Orient”. Overlooked by Sakurajima - one of Japan's most active volcanoes – there's many interesting places to explore. Not too far from the cruise terminal is ‘Nagisa Park' this is where you can stroll amongst the many black volcanic stones. Another popular attraction is the ‘Kirishima-Yaku National Park' with its mountains, volcanic lakes and hot springs. For the best views of the city, take a ride on the Ferris wheel on top of the shopping complex, ‘Amu Plaza'.
There are a number of places where you can purchase a special souvenir or gift. Popular purchases include ningyo (a Japanese doll), cards printed with ink made with volcanic ash and silk clothing, handbags and purses. The most famous product is Kagoshima's Satsuma pottery - it's been produced in the area for more than 380 years.
Kagoshima's local currency is the Yen. Kagoshima is 8 hours ahead of Greenwich meantime (GMT +8).
