The tiny islands of Les Saintes are situated just a few miles south of Basse-Terre, and for many travellers they remain a highlight of their visit to the region. This is because they are less developed that other Caribbean islands, so have a sense of the unexplored and untouched. However they are certainly developed enough to offer exceptional restaurants and water sports facilities, should you want to try diving amongst the gorgeous underwater wildlife and shallow reefs, while shops are well-stocked with interesting souvenir items and delicate art pieces to purchase.
For many, the Caribbean means soaking up the sun on a pristine beach, and Les Saintes certainly do not disappoint. The sands here are often quieter than those of the more populous islands nearby, allowing you your own peaceful corner of this tropical paradise. In Terre-de-Haut, the island most visited by tourists, you can take a tour of Fort Napoleon, destroyed by British forces at the start of the 19th century but since restored as a museum that showcases the cultures, history and wildlife of this gorgeous archipelago.
The currency in Les Saintes is the Euro. Les Saintes is 4 hours behind Greenwich Mean Time (GMT -4).
