Found in the state of Malacca in Malaysia, Malacca Port leads the way to one of the historical cities under UNESCO World Heritage Sites. So, as you can imagine, there are plenty of historical treasures to see, including ‘St. Francis Xavier's Church', which was built by the Portuguese in 1856 and named after the “Apostle of the East” (St. Francis Xavier).
As well as a place of fascinating history, Malacca is also blessed with stunning natural wonders. The powdery white beaches offer the perfect retreat – they're ideal for sunbathing, scuba diving and swimming. Other attractions include the ‘Eye on Malacca'. Located near the banks of the Melaka River, it consists of 16 pods that accommodate five passengers at a time. Once at the top of the Ferris wheel, you'll get to enjoy the most panoramic view of the town.
In Malacca you'll have a wide variety of markets to choose from. Popular souvenirs include traditional potteries, lacquer ware and brassware. ‘Laksamana Street' is well worth checking out too – you'll find a selection of stores selling products from Malaysia.
The local currency in Malacca is the Malaysian Ringgit (MYR). Malacca is 7 hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT +7).
