In South West France, close to the Spanish border, you'll find the sleepy fishing town of Port Vendres. A firm favourite with nature lovers, in Port Vendres you can visit the marine reserve of the Côte Vermeille (Vermilion Coast) hire a boat or go diving. Easy hikes as well as horseback riding are other activities you can enjoy in Port Vendres.
Port Vendres' famous fish market – situated on the dock side - is a very popular attraction and is worth going along to just for the wonderful atmosphere. The nearby village of ‘Collioure' also has a market on every Sunday and Wednesday. It is here that you can sample fresh local produce and buy local artisan handicrafts, spices, wines and clothing.
The local currency is the Euro. Port Vendres is 1 hour ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT +1).
