Split, Croatia Cruises

A true treasure of the Adriatic Sea, Split is one of Croatia’s most beautiful cities. Much of the city was built in medieval times, but that centred around an ancient Roman palace that was constructed for an emperor to enjoy his retirement, giving Split a unique and charming heritage. Indeed Diocletian’s Palace is one of the main attractions worthy of your time during your visit to Split, now home to a variety of local shops where you can wander for hours and pick up some charming souvenirs.

St Dominus Cathedral is a majestic church at the heart of the city, with its 12th Century bell tower and collection of Romanesque artworks making for striking viewing, best seen on a guided tour with a knowledgeable guide. And if cathedral architecture is a particular interest, then the nearby towns of Trogir and Sibenik are both home to impressive structures and only just a short coach trip away. Also don’t miss the chance to visit the Krka National Park near the city, home to hundreds of species of wildlife and with a beautiful river that is free from pollution.

The currency in Split is the Kuna. Split is 2 hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT +2).
