Svalbard, Norway Cruises

The Svalbard archipelago is a true wonder of nature. It’s home to some of the most dramatic landscapes on the planet, with each island a polar desert with impressive mountains that tower over the shores. Despite being situated so close to the North Pole, ice and snow are not constant, with beautiful wildflowers often covering the islands during the summer months. The only animals that live here year-round are the arctic fox, polar bears and reindeer, although birds do migrate here during warmer times.

Even beyond soaking in this majestic scenery, there are a number of incredible excursions available for the more adventurous cruise travellers, including dog sledding and touring local mining caves. If you’d rather take it easy, then brewery tours provide ample opportunity to sample the fine ales made in the land. The museum and science centre detail the history of the region, while those with an interest in the unique should pay a visit to the Global Seed Vault, a ‘doomsday’ bank embedded inside a mountain where seed samples from across the world are held – just in case!

The currency in Svalbard is the Krone. Svalbard is 2 hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT +2).
