Named after the North Star, Nordstjernen is part of the Coastal Voyage fleet and sails exclusively to the Arctic regions of Spitsbergen. With a passenger capacity of just 149, the ship is intimate and perfect for adventuring along the coastlines of hidden ports along your cruise.
Hurtigruten modernised the ship in 2000, restoring her former glory of the old Atlantic with new brass, classic wooden interiors and original art – making her a classic ship to sail aboard when exploring the Polar Regions.
Due to her small size, Nordstjernen has just a dining room and café for guests to dine in. The main dining room offers buffet-style breakfast including Scandinavian favourites such as herring and ham, as well as a continental fare such as fruit, cereals. Lunch involves salads, cold cuts and desserts, while dinner is a more sophisticated affair with assigned seating and a three-course set meal including dishes such as reindeer and pork chops.
There are two categories of accommodation on-board Nordstjernen; Polar Outside and Polar Inside. The Inside offers a cosy layout, complete with shared bathroom, convertible sofa bed and capacity for two passengers. The Outside also offers shared bathrooms, with separate beds which are convertible sofas.
The ship’s size means that on-board activities are rather limited, it is more the destination and experience of sailing on-board that is the main focus on-board Nordstjernen. Out on deck, you can almost touch the nature of the Polar Arctic and, with equipment available to keep you warm, you won’t risk missing out on some of the stunning scenery and wildlife on offer.
Children under the age of five are not permitted on-board Nordstjernen. It is also worth bearing in mind that the ship does not cater to a younger audience.
The Panorama Lounge offers a comfortable room where presentations from the on-board crew take place. Large windows offer stunning views of the scenery as you pass, with closet for snowmobile suits which you can borrow if you get cold on deck.
The bar and café area is great to enjoy a tea or coffee, with a shop counter and smoking area.
