Hurtigruten will add Roald Amundsen to its fleet in 2019, with the ship offering state-of-the-art technology which will reduce fuel consumption and feature environmentally sustainable hybrid propulsion. Roald Amundsen is part of a fleet of new hybrid ships which Hurtigruten are introducing, with the use of hybrid electricity and environmentally-conscious changes shaping the way the cruise line operates for the better.
The ship is named after Roald Amundsen, a Norwegian explorer who was the first man to cross Antarctica and reach the South Pole – mirroring the pioneering changes of polar exploration found in the ship itself.
Guests on-board can enjoy high-tech gadgets, immersive edutainment and stunning scenery to make it an unforgettable ship to sail upon.
As the emphasis on-board Roald Amundsen is on expeditions, the activities on-board a limited. Throughout the day, workshops and lectures offer insight into the destinations and guests can use expedition equipment to explore the regions for themselves. Take your pick from a fleet of Blueye underwater drones, kayaks or large inflatable Zodiacs to travel and uncover the hidden depths of the Antarctic.Other facilities include a gym, Wellness Centre with a sauna and oversized windows for ultimate views. While on the outer decks, you can find an infinity pool, Jacuzzis and a pool bar. There is also a walking track, massage room and lecture rooms.
Unless sailing to Antarctica, there are no age restrictions on-board. When sailing to Antarctica, Hurtigruten does not accept children under five.
