We love to bring you all the latest news cruise as soon as we get it, and it was leaked just three hours ago as of writing that the Miami Dolphins cheerleaders are to be the godmothers of the next Norwegian Cruise Line ship, the Norwegian Getaway.
The announcement will be confirmed later today, with the cheerleaders pictured holding a cut out of the ship. The Miami Dolphins are of course one of the biggest and most recognisable sports franchises in the whole of the US, and with the ship offering year-round sailings from the city, the link up makes perfect sense.
Kevin Sheehan, the president and CEO of Norwegian Cruise Line, said “We thought it was an interesting twist on what has been the tradition of godmothers.” As part of the deal, a more formal link between the Dolphins and NCL has been agreed. This will see Norwegian become the official cruise line not only of the Dolphins but of the famed Sun Life Stadium, including advertising signage and other promotions to include cruise giveaways. Sheehan added “We’re hoping for a good season for them.”
The Getaway is due to launch in February, and there are still quite a few details that haven’t been announced, including some of the on-board features, the details of the naming ceremony and more, but it’ll definitely be an exciting few months as we build up towards the launch. And if the Miami Dolphins could pull off a huge upset and reach the Super Bowl in February, it would be some month for this new partnership.
The Breakaway, which launched this year, was one of the more successful ship launches I can remember recently, so expectations are high for the Getaway as her sister ship. I personally can’t wait to see if she lives up to the hype.
