We believe the best way to provide award-winning service is by immersing ourselves in the cruising world and speaking from experience. We regularly hop on-board cruise ships to gain first-hand experience of on-board life, especially when new vessels finally embark on their first voyages.

We recently sent our Marketing Executive, Kirsty Doyle, on-board MSC Cruises’ latest ship, Meraviglia. From seriously stunning decor to delicious food, here is what she experienced on her trip.

A feast for the eyes

I loved my time on-board this fantastic new ship, from the décor to my cabin, the food, the entertainment and more.

The décor on-board Meraviglia is fantastic, with modern touches and an elegant and sophisticated feel throughout. The finish was impeccable and really made the ship feel luxurious.

The Central Promenade area is stunning with an array of boutiques on each side, and also features a Chocolate Bar, creperie and gourmet ice cream parlour. One of the best things about the ship is the LED dome which covers the entire ceiling of the Promenade, displaying beautiful abstract artwork, night skies and themed animations. For those who love a little sparkle, the Swarovski crystal staircases leading to the Promenade and restaurants exude luxury!

The beautiful decor continues in the staterooms. I stayed in a Bella Balcony Cabin, decorated in pale green and cream for a relaxed feel. It was surprisingly spacious with a large shower, and my balcony far exceeded my expectations. It was partitioned for privacy and gave beautiful views; the cherry on top of a perfect retreat.

Let Meraviglia entertain you

The entertainment on-board MSC Meraviglia is fantastic for both families and couples.

Sportplex has a number of facilities for the whole family to enjoy. Highlights include the F1 simulator (where you can experience the thrill of an F1 track), flight simulator, 4D cinema, bowling alley and a games arcade. There is also a sports arena and dedicated areas for children and teenagers. Three of these are decked out with Lego products and games, while the areas for teenagers include large chill out spaces with games consoles and bean bags.

Meraviglia’s Broadway Theatre is very modern, and hosts a variety of high quality performances.  The Carousel Lounge is the place to enjoy a famous Cirque du Soleil show and is reasonably priced, so would be a fantastic addition to cruise holidays. The ship also hosts themed party nights, DJs, quizzes, a TV studio, a casino, a spa and a nightclub.

The on-board pools are a good size, and have a great atmosphere with music and entertainers. There is even a water park with slides and rope-based climbing fun!

Eat your heart out

The food on-board MSC Meraviglia was varied and delicious, catering to all tastes and time frames (you can eat around the clock!). With a buffet, main dining room and five speciality restaurants to choose from, you will never go hungry!

Guests can enjoy Teppanyaki, Butcher’s Block (a modern American steakhouse), a sushi bar, Ristorante Italiano and the Eataly Food Market, as well as the chocolate experience and creperie previously mentioned. Should you crave a taste of home, there is even an English pub on-board called The Brass Anchor.

Something to note

If you are thinking about cruising on-board MSC Meraviglia, one thing I would urge each passenger to remember is that you may not be allowed to take hair straighteners and other heated hair-styling products on-board. This is simply due to MSC Cruises‘ own health and safety regulations, and doesn’t mean you have to spend your voyage looking less than your best!

MSC Meraviglia has it’s very own on-board salon where guests can use straighteners free of charge before heading to dinner or taking in a show. If you do find yourself without hair straighteners, simply head down here.

Final verdict

Despite there being around 3,000 guests on-board, MSC Meraviglia felt very spacious. Perfect for couples and families alike, the service was great throughout, particularly since it was a brand new ship.

There is so much to see and do on-board in addition to the incredible destinations you visit – I can really recommend sailing with MSC Cruises.
