Director’s cruise ship marathon raises funds for charity

Norwegian Breakaway cruises

If you’re a relatively regular visitor to our website, there’s a chance you’ll know that Cruise118 is actually part of World Travel Holdings, the world’s largest cruise retailer, so I thought it only appropriate to share with you the news that one of the company’s directors has recently achieved something special and for a great cause, too.

The fact that World Travel Holdings’ Business Development Director Sean Tolkin recently completed a marathon for a charitable cause is commendable enough and an amazing achievement, but being that WTH is a cruise retailer, it’s only fitting that he completed his 26 miles while on-board a cruise ship. The Run Like a Champion, Cruise Like a Norwegian marathon was recently held on-board Norwegian Cruise Line’s newest vessel, Norwegian Breakaway during the CruiseOne and Cruises Inc National Conference, and as of the time of the race’s completion, Sean had raised almost $50,000 on behalf of the Make a Wish Foundation.

After taking a little time to catch his breath, Sean said:  “I am beyond thrilled with the outpouring of support I received from my colleagues, friends, family and passengers leading up to and on-board Norwegian Breakaway this week. This marathon blended my love of the travel industry with my passion for running all in the name of a good cause, to benefit our signature charity Make-A-Wish.”

The epic run involved 210 laps of the Norwegian Breakaway’s track and in the time it took Sean to complete the marathon, the ship travelled 74 nautical miles and hundreds of onlookers, including colleagues and employees from World Travel Holdings, were there to cheer him on.

The Make a Wish Foundation is a non-profit organisation which helps children to deal with life-threatening medical conditions and thanks to Sean’s efforts, the foundation was able to grant the wishes of five children.

I’m sure you’ll join all the staff here at Cruise118 in congratulating Sean on his marathon achievement!
