Exhilarating Experiences on Royal Caribbean Ships

Anthem of the Seas - Royal Caribbean

Royal Caribbean cruises have for the longest time taken pride in innovating cruise experiences.

This largely comes from their steadfast dedication to defying the odds, and year after year going beyond what can be feasibly done to thrill travellers who take to the seas. One of their ships in particular, the Quantum of the Seas, is heralding a new generation of cruise vessels.

But alongside the new accommodation, dining, and entertainment of Royal Caribbean vessels is the promise of adrenaline fuelled experiences that you won’t find anywhere on any other cruise line. Without further ado, here’s a rundown of the most innovative, and exhilarating of these features.

Ripcord by iFly

One minute you’re sipping a cocktail by the pool, the next you’re clambering into a jumpsuit, fully equipped for a skydive… it can only be a sailing aboard the Quantum of the Seas. The Ripcord by iFly is a dream concept that has somehow made its way onto the Royal Caribbean fleet.

Normally, to skydive solo, it takes a number of sessions tethered with an instructor. But with the Ripcord facility, even with no previous experience you’ll find yourself floating in an air current observing a spectacular view.

Passengers get given two one-minute flights, the first for practice, and the second for a freestyle dive which sees you somersaulting and gliding around the glass tube which houses the simulator. It’s an adrenaline rush without the expense, all on a Royal Caribbean ship.

The North Star

In another cruising first, Royal Caribbean has also introduced a fantastic viewing platform called the North Star onto the Quantum of the Seas. Many cruise lines pride themselves on offering panoramic views from lounges and top decks, but it has absolutely nothing on this.

Rising to 300 feet above level, the North Star features a transparent pod which is fitted to a state-of-the-art rotating arm which swings the gem-like observation pod well over the side of the ship in a 360 degree ark.

As is to be expected, this serves up phenomenal views for cruisers, especially at sunrise and sunset.

Along with complimentary 15-minute viewings, there are also luxury package for the North Star which can be easily booked in advance. Each one will include a pre-flight reception, in-flight Champagne toast and a post-flight brunch or dinner.

Flowrider

Whilst the other experiences in the list are reserved for Quantum of the Seas passengers, that in no way means that other Royal Caribbean cruisers need miss out on some exhilaration.

In what has become an amazing standard feature on their fleet of ships, the Flowrider is a water feature unlike any other.

No matter your skill level, this surf simulator is a brilliant way to enjoy the waves, all from the stern of a cruise ship. 60,000 gallons of water rush through down the submersible curves of the simulator every minute, creating waves of varying size, speed, and intensity.

Whether its solo or during a surfing lesson, this magnificent feat of engineering is an exhilarating experience you can enjoy on any Royal Caribbean ship.
