If you want to do something to make your holiday even more special for the little treasures in your life (even if they aren’t that little anymore), you’ve come to the right place here. I’ve found a handful of additional extras ranging from the small and convenient to the truly extravagant that will all leave your kids beaming in pure delight with memories that will last forever. That is until they turn into terrible teenagers and hate your guts but hey, that’s just standard and nothing to worry about.
My first one is sort of cheating, as it’s as much for your own relief as it is for their enjoyment, but if anything that’s a double win. Many different cruise lines offer babysitting services and kids clubs but not many try to make it into a fun event. Celebrity Cruises offer ‘slumber parties’ from 10pm until 1am, which gives you the freedom to let your hair down and gives the kids a more enjoyable experience than just being sat in the stateroom, if they like to mix with other children.
Or you can indulge the sweet tooth in a tactic well-known as being one of the best ways to make you child happy. And then hyper. The best place to do this is the Cherry On Top sweet shop that is situated on some of the Carnival ships. These Wonka-esque treasure troves are the kind of place where you can just lose yourself in sugar. There are special gifts you can pick up too, so you can find that ‘candy’ item that is truly amazing.
Themed cruises aren’t just limited to food, wine or golf, with some new options suited to the younger members of the family now becoming available. The most prominent and perhaps polished of these so far is the Barbie cruise, available with Royal Caribbean. The Barbie Premium Experience lets girls try a range of themed activities including fashion design, tea parties and more, as well as receiving their own decorations for the room and their own Barbie doll.
Off the ship itself, shore excursions make up a big part of a cruise holiday and there are many wonderful options that the whole family can enjoy. If you want to try something truly special, then a Caribbean experience where you swim with dolphins is one that kids will remember for their whole life, as well as you. It’s an amazing time and one way to give the entire family memories to share.
Finally, and this is the best way to really spoil your brood, look into cruise and stay packages where you combine a hotel break with your cruise. There are plenty of stunning resorts to choose from where the kids can play in pools and on beaches or see thrilling city sights, but one destination trumps all when you’re putting the kids first and that is, of course, Disney World. Combine a visit to the world’s most famous theme park with a sailing on a fun-packed family friendly ship and you’ve got the ultimate treat holiday.
