MSC Cruises has begun an extraordinary process to enlarge the MSC Armonia as part of its new Renaissance Program, which will also enhance and increase the size of several other ships in the fleet, including the Lirica, Sinfonia and Opera, at a cost of around $273 million. This incredible development is carried out by cutting the 1566-passenger ship in half and slowly pulling her apart before inserting a new custom-built 79-foot section.
The renovation and enlargement of the Armonia is taking place at the renowned Fincantieri ship yard in Palermo, Sicily and will see the ship gain 193 new cabins, significantly increasing her capacity. The new section of the vessel will also create room for new children’s areas, an extra library, a larger on-board spa and a larger buffet and dining venue. A brand new Spray Park will also be built into the top deck, featuring a variety of water cannons and aquatic features.
After entering dry dock on August 31st, the MSC Armonia will undergo 11 weeks of construction and assembly before returning to service on November 17th.
