Cruising is becoming suddenly very futuristic, as Princess Cruises launch a new piece of technology that revolutionise your cruise experience – the Ocean Medallion. The same size as a 10 pence piece, the medallion will provide information to guests during their cruise to give a more personalised on-board experience.
Unlocking the door to your stateroom by simply turning the handle is just one of the many uses of this exciting new technology. The process of boarding the ship will become much more streamlined – the medallion can be scanned on arrival, which gives staff access to their information, avoiding the need to fill in paperwork. Once inside your stateroom, customised updates will appear on your television as it communicates with the device.
Imagine ordering a drink from your deckchair, and then relocating to a table, knowing that the waiter would know where to find you. Or having a waiter suggest a particular bottle of wine because he knows that you enjoyed it last night. All possible with the new tech.
The Ocean Medallions are waterproof, weigh just 50 grams, and with a battery life of over a month, won’t need charging during your cruise. You can wear it either as a pendant, as a wristband or on your belt.
Medallions will be sent to guests in the post in advance of their cruise, and will be engraved with each passenger’s name and the name of their cruise. They’re single use, so after your cruise is over you can keep it as a memento.
Princess Cruises, which is owned by Carnival, will begin introducing the technology on its ships later this year, starting with Regal Princess. If you’re eager to try it out, get in touch with us and our Cruise Concierge team can help identify which cruises are available. Our number is 0207 526 3035 if you’d like to give us a call.
