What happens in a storm? Do cruise ships stay out at sea or moor at port?

Ocean cruises

Cruise ships have some of the most advanced technology available to help them avoid storms, so in the majority of cases a ship will stay out at sea as they will be able to outmaneuver the worst of the weather. It may be that a major storm means that the itinerary is altered, if a port is rendered inaccessible or is likely to fall victim to the storm during a port call, but in these cases the crew will try to include a different port as an alternative. If a bad storm hits the port of embarkation, it may be that the cruise is delayed or in the worst cases cancelled, but these are extremely rare and a full refund would be given.
