Are any Fred Olsen ships really wheelchair friendly?

balmoral

All of the Fred. Olsen ships can welcome wheelchair users, although there are limited places available due to safety regulations. Currently these are the maximum number of wheelchair users on each ship:

  • Braemar – 4
  • Black Watch – 6
  • Boudicca – 6
  • Balmoral – 12

You may need to be assisted on-board, but the cruise ship staff will assist you in this. All areas of the ship are accessible for wheelchairs, except for the pool area. Unfortunately you may not be able to leave the ship in some ports if you are unable to walk unassisted, and you may not be able to participate in the Shore Tours programme. The Shore Tours team can arrange private tours with adapted vehicles in some instances. It’s worth noting that due to health and safety regulations chairs over 25kg can only be carried on and off the ship at the start and end of the cruise, not during any port visits, unless they can be easily dismantled.

If you are using a motorised wheelchair or scooter, your booking will only be accepted in an adapted cabin, and whether you use a manual or motorised wheelchair you must always book with an able-bodied companion.
