As Celebrity Cruises celebrates 10 years in the Galapagos Islands, the line has announced a new range of exciting and immersive land excursions in the unspoilt region, ranging from dining experiences with local residents to contributions to preserving the islands natural beauty and untouched environment in a number of fantastic ways.
Celebrity Cruises has a 10-year history of supporting and empowering the communities and environment of the Galapagos Island through the establishment of a medical clinic, fishing and agricultural cooperatives, and a partnership with the Galapagos Conservancy, which involves a matching program that will double the value of any donations given by guests. In addition, Celebrity will offer the following brand new land excursions and fabulous Galapagos experiences:
Authentic Dining in the Highlands
This fantastic cultural experience offers guests travelling to the Galapagos with Celebrity Cruises the chance to dine on local cuisine at a family’s farm situated in the verdant highlands of Santa Cruz. The marvellous excursion will directly connect travellers with the island’s local communities and natural beauty as well as its farming traditions and native wildlife.
Scalesia Reforestation Project
Celebrity Cruises will be working in close collaboration with Galapagos National Park in Santa Cruz on a plan to plant a total of 5,000 Scalesia trees that are endemic to the region but have lost large portions of their habitat, which in turn has had a detrimental effect on the native wildlife. Guests will have chance to take part in the brilliant project – the first of its kind conducted by a cruise line – under the guidance of Celebrity’s expert naturalists.
Collaborating with Farmers for On-board Menus
Whilst on-board the Celebrity Xpedition, guests will enjoy a one-of-a-kind dining menu that reflects the line’s intentions to preserve the Galapagos Island’s natural environment and support local farmers and growers. Available dishes will include everything from Ecuadorian ceviche to roasted fish, soups and even desserts such as tres leches, as well as variety of the locally caught, sustainable fish and seafood. In addition, the vegetables and fruits served on-board are fresh, organic and sourced from local Galapagos fishermen and farmers.
Commemorative Book
Every explorer who travels to the Galapagos Islands with Celebrity Cruise between June 2014 and December 2015 will receive a free coffee table book featuring inspiring photos and stories from past guests who have spent time on the islands. The book will also contain interesting information about the environment and community of the Galapagos Islands.
