British-based cruise line Cruise & Maritime Voyages has announced the introduction of a new ship to its growing fleet. The line has acquired the Grand Holiday from Costa Crociere and will rename the ship Magellan after the renowned Portuguese explorer, commencing cruises from the UK in spring 2015.

Weighing over 46,000 gross tons, Magellan will become Cruise and Maritime’s adult-friendly flagship vessel, accommodating up to 1,250 guests within 726 cabins and sailing from ports around the UK including Liverpool, Newcastle, London Tilbury, Hull and Bristol.

The ship will boast a wealth of marvellous features across her nine passenger decks, including three lounge bars, three deck bars and two restaurants – the Waldorf and the Kensington – where cruisers will be able to indulge in a range of mouth-watering cuisine from diverse menus. Guests will also find a host of fantastic entertainment on-board at the Main Show Lounge as well as a lively night club and bustling casino. Those looking for a little leisure and relaxation will appreciate Magellan’s range of other facilities, which include a Wellness and Beauty Centre, gymnasium, boutique shops, library and galleria alongside two swimming pools and three Jacuzzis. Every area of the ship, from the wide corridors and expansive decks to the stylish public venues and spacious accommodations, will combine elegant decor with excellent personalised service to create unforgettable experiences at sea.

CEO and Chairman of Cruise and Maritime Voyages commented on the addition to the fleet, “The introduction of Magellan to our growing ocean fleet is another important milestone in the expansion and strategic development of the Group’s presence in the UK and wider international markets which will increase overall capacity to 115,000 passengers. The CMV brand is now creating much wider recognition and we remain confident that our medium to longer term growth objectives will be achieved”.

Magellan’s maiden voyage will depart on Sunday 15 March 2015, sailing from London Tilbury to Iceland and the Faroe Islands for 12 nights to see the breathtaking Northern Lights and Solar Eclipse. Over the summer she will operate voyages to the Norwegian Fjords, the Canary Islands and cities across Northern Europe and the Baltics, including Amsterdam and St Petersburg. She will also embark on an incredible 42 night cruise to the sun-soaked West Indies and the beautiful continent of South America and the Amazon during the winter 2015/16 season.
