Maybe you’re an established Princess Cruises fan. Maybe you’ve sailed with them before or perhaps you’ve only just heard of them through watching the ITV documentary The Cruise Ship? However you’re familiar with the line, the news that Princess Cruises has a new ship on the horizon is certainly exciting.
Princess Cruises has just announced that it plans to add a new ship to its fleet in 2017 and though exact specifications are still too be confirmed, the as yet unnamed vessel will follow in the wake of her two successful sister ships, Royal Princess and Regal Princess when it comes to design.
The new ship will be built to cater for 3,560 passengers, weigh in at a sizeable 143,000 tons and will feature signature public spaces such as a central atrium, multiple dining venues and the Movies Under the Stars cinema, not to mention an impressive selection of retail outlets. Even better news for cruisers, 80 per cent of her staterooms are set to have balconies.
The line has also revealed that it intends to debut some brand-new cruising innovations on the new ship and Princess Cruises’ president Jan Swartz was understandably excited, saying: “Royal Princess and Regal Princess have been exceptionally successful for us and have received numerous accolades from guests, travel agents and media, so adding another sister ship will enable us to continue to expand our innovative vacation experiences…”
Indeed, it doesn’t seem like almost 14 months ago that the appropriately-named Royal Princess, Christened by her godmother The Duchess of Cambridge first set sail from Southampton and the launch of her slightly younger sibling Regal Princess, which set sail from Italy in May, is no-doubt even fresher in the minds of Princess Cruises afficionados.
