It seems like only yesterday that we were sharing with you the excitement of the launch of Princess Cruises’ newest vessel, the Royal Princess last June, when she was christened in classic style by her godmother Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Cambridge. Well, things certainly are not slowing down for the line as it gets ready to launch its soon-to-be newest vessel and sister ship to the Royal Princess, the Regal Princess, which will launch in less than a month’s time on May 20.
Trials at Sea
The ship recently completed her sea trials – a series of set maneuvers designed to fully test the ship’s capabilities. During the trials, her propulsion systems, navigation and steering equipment were all put through their paces. This was no quick check either, with the trials taking place over a five-day period. After passing with flying colours, Regal Princess is now back in the Fincantieri shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy, undergoing further work on her exterior and interior.
Maiden voyage
Not straying too far from her shipyard, the Regal Princess’ maiden voyage will be a seven-day Mediterranean cruise from Venice, which will include stops at such fascinating and sun-kissed destinations as Mykanos, Corfu and Athens, before ending her voyage in the historic Greek capital, Athens. During the summer season, the ship will continue to operate in the region, sailing on Princess Cruises’ signature Grand Mediterranean voyages.
A feature-packed vessel
The 3,560-passenger vessel will boast a host of innovative and stylish new features. The Regal Princess Atrium is the glittering heart of the ship, offering a comprehensive choice of dining venues and bars. The Princess Theater is the line’s largest theatre yet, while by night the pools on the top deck transform into an interactive light and music show, with dancing fountains. The innovative Seawalk glass walkway which debuted on Royal Princess is back, while guests can also enjoy Movies Under the Stars on a giant poolside screen.
