Buenos Aires is the capital of Argentina and a great city to begin your cruise from, particularly if you have a couple of days before your cruise to explore this beautiful city. As you wander the streets you’ll be marvelled by the magnificent architecture, not just of the palaces but of even the most low-key of buildings. There’s a vibrant street-art scene, and you’ll find colourful murals around every corner.
A walking tour is a great way to explore Buenos Aires and to visit the main points of interest such as the iconic city square; Plaza de Mayo, The ornate theatre; Teatro Colon and the Obelisco de Buenos Aires; a 67m-high obelisk.
Buenos Aires is a city that doesn’t sleep. Restaurants don’t get busy until at least 9pm and bars and nightclubs remain open until sunrise. Home to some out-of-this-world restaurants, popular favourites in this area are steaks washed down with lots of Malbec. If you have room, indulge in a late-night ice cream.

Buenos Aires is the start point for many South America cruises. Head south and you’ll experience stunning ports of call along the Argentinian coast as you head down to Ushuaia, also known as the “End of the World”. From here you can either sail around the southern tip of South America and back up along the Chilean coast, cruising the Chilean Fjords, or you can continue south towards Antarctica as you explore the Arctic Peninsula.
Head north from Buenos Aires and you can sail towards tropical Rio de Janeiro, capital of Brazil. En-route you’ll all at Uruguay’s Punta Del Este – the favourite summer playground of South America’s rich and famous.
