Genoa is a seaport situated on the northern coast of Italy. The city boasts history, culture, architecture and fine cuisine and as a result of this, the city won the title of the EU's Capital of Culture. As you sail into port you are greeted by a colourful landscape of a leafy green hillside and red and pink houses. Whilst in Genoa you can discover the religious site of Cattedrale di San Lorenzo Campanile, visit the Gallery of the White Palace which is home to some extraordinary paintings, explore the old streets and landmarks of Italy at Via Garibaldi or take a scenic walk through the Italian botanical gardens.
The old town is where you will find many shops and boutiques and market stalls. You will find everything from luxurious chocolate to fine jewellery and hand-made Italian lace here. Central Genoa is where you can find the larger department stores that are home to designer clothes, handbags and shoes or you can sample the fresh produce at Genoa's market – ‘Mercato Orientale'.
The local currency is the Euro. Genoa is 1 hour ahead of Greenwich meantime (GMT +1).
