Hellesylt Cruises

Nestled amongst one of the world’s most magnificent sights, the UNESCO-listed Geirangerfjord, the tiny Viking port of Hellesylt is a delightful base to explore the surrounding natural beauty. Despite the dramatic landscapes, don’t be fooled into thinking that you need to be an experienced hiker to make the most of the area, as there are plenty of trails well-suited to casual walkers that all offer incredible views. The tiny town itself is full of charm, with friendly locals only too happy to point you in the direction of the best local scenery.

There are incredible valleys, including Kjellstaddalen and Moldskreddalen, but one of the absolute highlights that you must not miss is the Hellesylt waterfall. Situated between two bridges within the village, it’s known as one of the most photographed spots in the whole Norwegian fjords, with water cascading down over polished granite in a spectacular sight. The bridges let you stand either above or below the waterfall, so you always have an amazing view. Don’t miss the Ljoen viewpoint between Hellesylt and Stranda either – it’s one of the best places to get photos of Geirangerfjord and the surrounding mountain peaks.

The Krone is the official currency of Hellesylt. Hellesylt is 2 hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT +2).
