A city in the state of Pará in Brazil, Santarem is the second-largest city in Pará and is situated between Manaus and Belém. Running along the front of Santarem - side by side - is the Amazon and the Tapajós rivers. This spectacle is affectionately called ""The meeting of the waters"" by the locals.
During your time here visit the ‘Museu de Santarem', it is here you can view the local historical art; ‘Museu Dica Frazao' is where exhibits of clothes and fabrics made with natural fibres (grasses, and shrubs) can be found; Santarem's cathedral is worth seeing too, it was built in 1761, on the site of an earlier church from the 1660s.
Right on Santarem's dock you'll find a flea market selling local crafts, art and souvenirs. Be sure to barter – this way you'll get the best price possible. The main markets in Santarem are situated downtown; they're also worth checking out - you'll find an array of local arts and crafts here too.
The currency in Santarem is the Brazilian real (BR). Santarem is 3 hours behind Greenwich Mean Time (GMT -3).
