Braemar

Enjoy a traditional cruising experience with a friendly, welcoming environment when you sail on Braemar. As with all ships in the Fred. Olsen fleet, she is tailored to British cruisers, from the authentic décor to the little touches like high quality tea and coffee selections.

The smaller size of Braemar means that she is perfect for bringing cruise passengers together, whether over dinner in one of the outstanding restaurants or with a drink in the show lounge while a live comedy or musical performance takes place. And if you need a little ‘you’ time, just head to the spa and book yourself in for an incredible treatment.

Dining

Every meal is a special experience on board Braemar, with tempting indulgences on offer in the stylish dining venues throughout your cruise. The main dining areas on-board are the Grampian Restaurant and the Thistle Restaurant, which both serve a mouth-watering menu of the finest cuisine. Palms Café is a buffet-style restaurant offering a less formal dining option, so you can choose what you want to eat and when you want to eat it. The Marquee Bar is where you can take a dip, soak up the sun and enjoy a hearty breakfast or light lunch, too. For unforgettable al fresco dining, book a table at The Grill and enjoy perfectly prepared steaks, seafood and more, all accompanied by spectacular views. Room service and afternoon tea are also available.

Accommodation

Accommodation options on-board Braemar range from interior cabins to those with portholes or picture windows, up to balcony cabins and luxurious suites. Single rooms are available for solo travellers. Each room comes well-equipped with climate control, an interactive smart TV, desk, phone, fridge, hairdryer and tea and coffee making facilities. Selected suites come with the Suite Dreams Package which includes a whole host of extras such as fresh flowers, luxury bathrobes and slippers.

Activities

You’ll find so much going on on-board Braemar - photography talks, ballroom dancing classes, art tutorials, theatre workshops, bingo and trivia to name just a few. You’ll have plenty of opportunities to keep fit with yoga, Pilates, dance classes and a fully-equipped fitness centre, as well as sports and games such as table tennis, quoits, bowls and golf. There are two large heated swimming pools on-board, flanked by bubbling Jacuzzis and plenty of sun loungers on which to relax. Other facilities include a card room, casino, library and a spa and beauty salon.

During the peak holiday season, children between the ages of 5 and 12 are well catered-for in the Little Skippers Club. Here they can enjoy a whole host of activities including arts and crafts, deck games, treasure hunts, cookery and quizzes, all in the company of qualified childcare professionals.

Entertainment

There’s always something to keep you entertained on board Braemar. From interesting talks and lectures, brain-teasing quizzes and insightful classes to enjoy during the day – perfect if you’ve somehow had enough of relaxing in the sunshine or exploring ashore; to fantastic performances from live singers, dancers, comedians and more in the evenings.

You’ll find a variety of shows and entertainment acts in the various bars and lounges around the ship. The Neptune Lounge features live shows and cabaret acts, whilst the Observatory Lounge is where you can enjoy pre-dinner drinks and be awed by the extraordinary ocean views. The Coral Club, meanwhile is a sophisticated, 170-seater lounge which hosts much of the ship’s evening entertainment. If you’re after recreating the atmosphere of your local, then head to the Morning Light Pub. The Marquee Bat is a great spot for an alfresco pre-dinner drink and is also the venue for fantastic late-night deck parties.

Braemar Reviews

We simply love Fred Olsen, especially the Braemar. We have been on board about 5 times now I think. Some folks think she is stuffy, she isnt she is formal but in a nice way. Someone said that they thought the décor was a bit dated, its not, its lovely and makes me feel relaxed and right at home. Anyway, its the perfect ship for us. We can drive to the port, do our lovely holiday and then drive back from the port. No stress in worrying about how much luggage to take. The staff are so wonderful, mostly from the Philippines, after our second or third trip some of the staff even remembered our names. I think this ship would suit anyone who likes a quiet ship with very few distractions and plenty to do. I think this might be my highlight though, when we were having dinner in the Grampian restaurant, our table was right next to a huge round window. Our waiter got very excited and told us to look, look, look, and he was so right, just in front of us was a family of dolphins swimming alongside us. It was magical. Oh and the food in the restaurant wasnt bad either.

Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines Braemar offers a charming, comfortable Home away from Home. She is not Glitzy like some of the Huge Cruise ships out there but what she lacks in Sparkle, she makes up for in abundance with her personality, friendliness and sophisticated style.

You can easily find a comfortable chair in one of the Lounges or bars on board or a sunny spot on deck to watch the world go by. Waiters are always on hand to take your drink order from a very reasonably priced bar list.

You will never go wanting for someone to have a nice chat with whether you are travelling alone or travelling with a companion.

Food on board Braemar is of a high quality and it designed to appeal to the British Palette.

Braemar is truly a British ship through and through and you are never far away from a decent cup of tea!

She is also quite traditional, with formal dining and plenty of enrichment classes, such as Watercolour painting, Craft making, Bridge and Dance Classes. For this reason, the ship attracts the senior crowd but also has facilities for children who are always welcome, particularly in the School holidays.

Cabin accommodation is very comfortable and the service rivals that of the Six Star Luxury Cruise Lines.

A perfect ship to try your first cruise.

I have just returned from 1 week sailing with Fred Olsen on the Braemar and thoroughly enjoyed it. the staff were very welcoming and provided an excellent service. we have never cruised with Fred Olsen before despite doing over 15 cruises in our retirement. The food was some of the best ive had on a cruise and was always varied with a number of choices. I would definitely travel with Fred Olsen again and I look forward to our next sailing.

We booked superior outside cabin on the Fred Olsen Breamar and travelled over New Year 2012. We thoroughly enjoyed the sailing as we did with all the previous sailings we have been on. We have cruised with Fred Olsen many times before and always enjoy what they have to offer. The staff are always extremely friendly and we always receive first class service. The ships aren’t as fancy or as big as some of them out there but they are perfect for quieter cruising and they provide the very best food we have ever had at sea. We don’t usually go to the formal evenings, which is always fine, we dine in a different restaurant. The general manager was very efficient and adhered to our requests immediately. we look forward to our next voyage with Fred.

My Husband and I have just been on the Fred Olsen Braemar to the Canaries and really enjoyed it. We normally cruise on bigger ships but wanted to do this cruise to get some sun. we were so impressed that my husband want to go with them again. Our cabin was single beds but that was not much of a problem as we only slept there but the entertainment was good the staff were very helpful and we chose to eat in the Grampian Restaurant which was lovely with a great view. If you like a smaller friendly ship then I would go with Fred Olsen.

This was my first trip on the Braemar but I can see why it attracts many repeat customers. This was due to the friendliness of the staff and other guests. A real British experience and sailing direct from the UK was an even better bonus. Although most of the other guests are of the more mature age there are a few youngsters and some with young families.

Because of the size of the ship it can’t compete with some of the large super cruise lines for things to do but it didn’t need to. The theatre was small but great entertainment for all.

There was plenty of room on deck to sunbathe without feeling cramped as people seemed to disperse all around the ship.

The food was excellent and even at the buffet the tables had tablecloths and napkins. Quite formal when it came to eating in the restaurants even on the informal night my husband had to wear a tie but it made for more special occasions whilst we were away. A great little ship that was one of the friendliest we’ve been on.

A wonderful and interesting cruise to Cape Verde Islands and West Africa. We loved every second of our first ever Fred Olsen cruise. We mostly ate in the Grampian which was lovely, we were never waiting long to be seated and the service was fantastic. The food was always delicious and whenever we headed to the bar the barman would have our drinks waiting. Superb service! We enjoyed all of the entertainment on board the Braemar including the crew cabaret which was very entertaining. There were also lots of activities on in the daytime to keep us busy. Our cabin was quite small but adequate, we didn’t spend much time in there anyway as we were busy enjoying our holiday!

Our first cruise with Fred Olsen and it was amazing.

We had a great time onboard, and so much better than we could ever have imagined.

Staff were mostly excellent. Our cabin was definitely small, but was not a problem. We only slept in there and got changed. There was a bit noise from the floor above and that was not good. It turned out to be an air conditioning unit on the deck above us but we soon got used to the whirr as we fell asleep. The food was really excellent all the time and we did put on weight, well you have to on Holiday. The Casino was really small, but it was never that busy anyway. I think the staff preferred it that way?I liked the games of bridge we played and made a lot of new friends doing so, also the dance hosts they have onboard was a real plus, especially as my husband wont dance at all.Looking forward to my next one already.

I travelled on this cruise and was slightly worried as I was a single passenger and had heard that the ship was small. I was very impressed and glad that I went on this cruise. The staff were excellent to me and mixed me well with other single passengers so I got to make great friends.

Although the ship was smaller that I was used to, the entertainment was excellent and there was just enough to do on-board.

The ship is a perfect size to get into the ports and the food was fantastic. I would definatly recommend this cruise for other single passengers.

The ship was all we wanted it to be, felt like home from home!

Staff on board were amazing.

The ship itself had a very light and spacious feel.

She carries just 900 guest so the size was just about perfect!

The fabulous Morning Light Pub had a real warm atmosphere!

The views from the Observatory Lounge were fantastic and was perfect for a pre dinner drink.

We loved the Palms café which was very informal and relaxed.

The food was fabulous we had so much choice. The Grampian Restaurant was for formal but intimate.

Lots to do on our cruise such as arts and activities..

A choice of 2 open air pools with a one of the pools having a nice poolside bar.

The cabins were all nicely furnished and most had balconies.

Can’t wait to go back.

I travelled on the Braemar in March and thoroughly enjoyed it. I travelled alone and had a single cabin. I was nervous as it was my first cruise by myself but there were plenty of other singles onboard and I had a lovely time. I met some lovely people and the cruise itself was excellent. the cabin was spacious enough for one and nicely furnished. The staff are great and very attentive and I would travel with Fred Olsen again, plus ive started earning my membership points!!

I am now a small ship fan after years of going on super liners, this ship is everything a cruise ship should be , she is small and intimate, you see the same people walking around the ship more than once! The crew are amazing and I guess have been there many years. The Captain walks around and chats to all the passengers and seems really proud of his ship. I am now a small ship fan as I don’t feel we will cause chaos when get off to visit a small island!

I love to relax when I go on a cruise, so the Braemar suited my needs perfectly. With the health and beauty salon, and the 2 pools and Jacuzzi I was spoilt for choice when It came to having some down time. Added to this, the choice of entertainment, with the Theatre, Coral show lounge and the various bars, The Braemar gave me the perfect blend of relaxation and recreation, all in a friendly atmosphere.

I have returned from my first Fred Olsen cruise and I was a elderly single passenger. I never thought cruising would be for me but I was so wrong. It is the best way to see lots of difference places and meet lovely people onboard. The Braemar was a fantastic ship, with great facilities and the food was fabulous. The single supplement was very good and I cannot wait to do my next cruise as I feel this is the only way for me to holiday now.

The Braemar with Fred Olsen was a bit of a last minute holiday for us this time, we usually go with Royal Caribbean. The dates we perfect, the cruise was on a latesaver promotion and it sailed from England, Ideal. I have to say, I went on the ship with the attitude that it wouldn’t be quite as impressive compared to the likes of the Independence of the Seas, but I realised it’s not the same type of holiday, you really can’t compare the two. The staff, food, entertainment and ambience were sublime, something that if you have never sailed on small ship before you are missing out on.

We had never been cruising before but decided to take my mother away for 80th birthday.

Our agent found a fantastic deal on a Fred Olsen Braemar sailing around the Canaries. We have had friends who have cruised with Fred before and had recommended them to us.

The size of the ship was great as my mother has got walking difficulties and it was easy enough to get round.

The staff on board were so friendly and so helpful. They could not do enough for us especially when we had a bit of motion sickness but that was soon sorted out with a quick trip to the doctors.

We were really surprised with the cost of drink on the ship as it was very cheap compared to what we thought it would have been. Very good value!

The currency on board was all in Sterling so we knew exactly what we were spending and didn’t have the hassle of trying to convert the currency.

We decided to treat ourselves to an afternoon traditional afternoon tea. White gloved waiters, yummy cakes, scones and fresh sandwiches all for just under £7.00 per person.

My mother and myself loved to get dressed up at night we thoroughly enjoyed the formal evening.

Think it is about time we looked for another Fred Olsen cruise.

My husband and I travelled on the Fred Olsen Braemar in September. We love Fred Olsen ships because they are much smaller than the other companies so the service on board is fantastic, it feels as if there is almost as many staff as there are customers. The Observatory was wonderful for days at sea as it had huge open windows to take in the views as you were sailing. The food on board was superb both in quality and variety cannot fault it at all. The destinations themselves were perfect and we never had more than one consecutive day at sea. Looking to book our next cruise with Fred in the New Year.
