Can I use my laptop to go online whilst at sea?
Yes. All the major cruise lines offer internet service and Wi-Fi access on-board, so if you’re taking your own laptop, you’ll be able to sign into the ship’s Wi-Fi and get online. Some lines offer ship-wide Wi-Fi, meaning you can get access to the internet in your own stateroom or cabin, while others offer Wi-Fi only in a number of designated Wi-Fi hotspots, so it’s important to check with your Cruise Concierge as to which line is best suited to you before you book if internet access is an important factor. Of course, you can also use the own line’s internet café or computer room to access the internet on public machines. In all cases, you’ll be charged a flat rate per minute for your internet access unless you purchase a minutes package, which always works out as the cheapest option. However you choose to pay, the cost of going on-line is high while at sea, so it’s always advisable to go online while in port or ashore, using land-based Wi-Fi hotspots, to keep costs down.
