Cruise and Maritime names new flagship

Cruise and Maritime new flagship Columbus at Cruise118.com

Here at Cruise118.com, we always like to keep you up to date with the latest cruise news, and it doesn’t get much more exciting than when we hear about a new ship taking to the oceans.

The latest announcement comes from Cruise and Maritime, who, not content with bringing the popular Magellan to the oceans of the world, have announced a new flagship for June 2017, Columbus. If you’re familiar with the line, you’ll know it is a great choice for UK cruisers, offering plenty of departures from home shores. The line will be continuing this trend with London Tilbury announced as the home port for Columbus.

Catering to around 1,400 passengers and weighing in at 63,786grt, Columbus will be the line’s largest ship yet, and will offer passengers plenty of space in which to relax across 12 passenger decks, not least in one of the 64 deluxe balcony cabins she’ll boast. There’s great news for solo travellers too, as Columbus will also offer 150 cabins for single travellers.

As for what you’ll find on-board, there’s a three-deck atrium for one thing, where you’ll find a great selection of shops and a show lounge which spans two decks, which features a retractable stage too. British cruisers will love the themed Taverners Pub and Casino, while the ship will also boast two heated swimming pools and plenty of deck space.

Come evening, Columbus has plenty more attractions, including a giant TV screen on deck which is perfect for movies under the stars. If the stars themselves are the main feature for you when you cruise, then you’ll love the fact that the ship has its own Dome Observatory. Of course, it’s sure to be just as much a draw in the day too, offering a great way to take in those ocean vistas.

When it comes to dining, Columbus will offer five different dining options, including three fine dining choices and two speciality coffee shops. There are also eight different lounge bars to choose from, ensuring a change of scenery is always on the cards when it comes to a night-time tipple.

The ship is set to visit Amsterdam and Antwerp on her maiden voyage, in a year which will also see her visit the fjords, Iceland and the Baltic capitals, as well as Spain, the Canaries and Portugal during the autumn.

Columbus will go on sale at the end of March 2016, so make sure you check back on our Cruise and Maritime pages to see which exciting itineraries she’ll be offering. In the meantime, head over to take a look at the great selection of Cruise and Maritime sailings we have available.
