MSC announces its own island in the sun

MSC Cruises Ocean Cay

Having already re-enforced its dedication to all things sun-kissed with the announcement that the forthcoming MSC Seaside will cruise the Caribbean year-round from Miami, MSC Cruises has just revealed plans for its very own island resort in the region, reserved exclusively for MSC guests.

Located in the Bahamas, the cay in question, Ocean Cay Marine Reserve, will be transformed from a sand extraction station into a stunning marine reserve and as well as being the perfect place for MSC Cruise ship passengers to relax and soak up the rays, it will benefit the local economy and environment, helping to conserve natural resources.

The November 2017 opening of the cay will offer MSC passengers the chance to enjoy some of the world’s finest beaches as well as unforgettable Caribbean experiences but it’s not just the customer experience that MSC is investing in with the creation of the island. Throughout the line’s 300 year heritage, it has always had an ongoing respect for the ocean its ships sail on, being one of the world’s most eco-conscious cruise lines and is investing around $200 million in the creation of the new natural haven.

The 95 acre site will boast 2.4km of beautiful beaches, spread across six different sandy expanses, making Ocean Cay the biggest island development ever invested in by a cruise line in the Caribbean and the first ever marine reserve island too. As well as some serious Caribbean beach fun opportunities, Ocean Cay will also boast a purpose-built berth and pier on the seafront so MSC guests can get straight to relaxing or exploring as soon as possible. As well as bountiful watersports opportunities, an inland lagoon and a zip wire experience, there will also be an exclusive spa and wellness area for MSC Yacht Club guests.

The fun is set to continue into the night on Ocean Cay too, with the construction of a purpose-built 2,000 seat amphitheatre, which will host live music and entertainment and be home to a number of restaurants and bars too. And in great news for those who love a flutter, their ship’s casino will remain open for the duration of its time berthed at Ocean Cay.

If you can’t wait until 2017 however, you’ll be pleased to know that we always have a great selection of MSC Caribbean Cruises available.
