MSC Cruises to offer sailings from Cuba

MSC Cruises to offer sailings from Cuba

MSC Cruises has recently announced plans to become the first cruise line to homeport in Cuba. The cruise line’s 2,120-passenger ship MSC Opera will be based in Havana from December 2015 for the entire winter season, offering travellers a marvellous choice of 16 different Caribbean itineraries.

The new itineraries will feature a host of popular Caribbean destinations, providing guests with the chance to explore destinations including Jamaica, the Cayman Islands and Mexico with two nights and two and a half days in the Cuban capital also available for those who’d like a taste of authentic Cuban culture.

MSC Cruises’ Chief Executive Officer Gianni Onorato commented on the recent announcement:

“We are particularly proud to make this exciting new destination available to our guests. For this, I wish to personally thank all those who worked with us over the past several months to make it possible for MSC Cruises to launch Cuba as a destination to its guests.

The move to Cuba proves our commitment to offer our guests and holiday-makers the best and most sought-after destinations as they become accessible – thus further enhancing our global offering while providing travellers best-in-class experiences and service.

The inaugural cruise will take place in less than six months from now, but we can definitely confirm the strong demand for the product, due to the combination of the attractiveness of Cuba as a culture-rich destination, coupled with the fact that it is offered through our distinctive MSC Cruises experience.”

These new Cuban sailings will only be available to UK cruisers when they go on sale on Thursday 9th July. The first voyage will emabrk from Havana on 22nd December 2015, following MSC Opera’s Grand Voyage to Cuba from Genoa, which departs on 2nd December 2015.

During their two-and-a-half-day stay in Havana, MSC Opera’s guests will have chance to explore the city’s historic UNESCO World Heritage Site centre and discover its fascinating history, culture and stunning architecture.
