MSC Opera entered service with MSC Cruises in 2004 joining her sister, MSC Lirica, as one of two medium-sized Mistral Class ships specifically built for MSC Cruises. Her passenger decks are all named after Italian operas and most of the public areas are small and intimate, however there is no lack of facilities and amenities for your enjoyment. There are four dining venues including two main dining restaurants, a buffet-style cafeteria and a casual outdoor eaterie plus numerous bars and lounges including the Lord Nelson Pub. Other facilities include a 713-seat two-tier theatre, cabaret lounge, a large casino, two swimming pools complete with separate kid’s wading pool, numerous hot tubs, a Spa, mini-golf course and kids club facilities plus much more.

MSC Opera has a guest capacity of over 1,750, a length of 830ft, and a gross tonnage of 59,000. Her maiden voyage was June 2004 and she cruises to a swift speed of 20 knots/23mph.

Dining

MSC Opera has plenty of restaurants to choose from, serving the finest Italian cuisine. There are two main dining rooms on offer aboard MSC Opera, one being, "La Carvella Restaurant" and the other, "L’Approdo". For something a little more casual then you can pop over for a self-serve buffet in "Le Vele Cafeteria". "Il Patio" is a poolside eatery serving pasta and pizza and you will find tea, coffee and pastries in the "Aroma Cafe". There are plenty of pubs and bars to choose from on-board your MSC Opera such as; "Caruso Lounge", "Aroma Coffee Bar", "Piazza di Spagna Bar", "Sotto Vento Pub", "La Cabala Piano Bar", "Cotton Club Bar" and the "Beer Bar".

Leisure

From Granddaughter to Granddad, MSC Opera has a whole host of activities to suit every age. Enjoy a relaxing swim in either of one their two Swimming Pools, play a game of Mini Golf, make the most of the fully-equipped gym and Sports Centre, go for a leisurely jog around the Running Track, or even play a game of Shuffleboard with family and friends. The Gym is fully equipped to work up a sweat with free weights, machines, steam rooms and saunas, all accompanied by the glorious view of the ocean.

Entertainment

MSC Opera certainly knows how to entertain her guests and has plenty of venues to choose from. The "Theatre Dell Opera" is the main show lounge and lays host to cabaret acts and fantastic shows. The "Opera Lounge" is where you can have a dance alongside a live band, and the younger people on-board will enjoy "Byblos Disco", with lively contemporary music. "Monte Carlo Casino" is perfect for anyone who fancies a bit of a gamble, with beginner lessons, tournaments for the more advanced, slot machines and all-round entertainment

Relaxation

Treat yourself to a therapeutic massage in The Opera Health Centre; the Spa features a Beauty Salon, Treatment Rooms and Pampering Sessions.

Family

Families are made to feel extremely welcome aboard MSC Opera. The ship features an age appropriate programme for all the children, with a teen’s area and a children’s area, video games, Ice-Cream Parlour, Internet Centre and a shopping gallery ‘Via Candiotti’ houses a choice of various duty-free shops.

Medical & Accessibility

There is a Medical Centre on-board MSC Opera with doctors and nurses on hand if you need them. There isn’t a pharmacy, so we would suggest to bring your own medical supplies if you need them. There are a few wheelchairs on-board but it is advised to bring your own wheelchair if you need one. MSC Opera has braille all around the ship for the visually impaired and the ship also provides hearing impairment kits to notify you of noises. If you have special dietary requirements then chief on-board is fully prepared, with vegetarian options and gluten free food if needed.
