Originally named the Orient Year Grand Prix, it wasn´t until 1965 when the race was renamed as the Singapore Grand Prix. Due to the danger and the inconvenience of having to shut down the roads for the event, it was discontinued for some years until 2008 when it made headlines for being the first Formula 1 night race. Taking place on the Marina Bay Street Circuit, the race typically starts at midday GMT (8pm local time). Despite the timing of the race, the cockpit temperature can get up to 60ºC given the tropical climate. Coupled with the lack of daylight and the humidity, this circuit is a great test for the drivers´ skills and concentration. The Singapore Grand Prix has wowed its fans and set the bar high for the other race events, thus earning the title of “the jewel in the Formula 1 crown”.
The Singapore Grand Prix circuit has a lot of twists and turns that can get tricky for the drivers, but it is also one of the slowest circuits among the Formula 1 races. The Padang Grandstand gives you the best of both worlds between the race and musical entertainment., you can enjoy headlining performances in between laps at the stage area and not be torn between two options.
