Launching in November 2021, Discovery Princess will be the last of the Royal-Class ships and the 20th ship in the then 19-strong fleet. As the sixth Royal-Class ship, she follows sister-ships Royal Princess, Regal Princess, Majestic Princess and the soon-to-launch Sky Princess and Enchanted Princess.
The ships features will mirror those found on-board her sister-ships, such as the signature Movies Under the Stars; adults-only Sanctuary; three-deck Atrium and Sky Suites – the cruise line’s largest-ever balconies. The 3,660 passenger ship will also boast the innovative OceanMedallion technology, offering the hassle-free, personalised way to cruise on-board Princess Cruises.
The new addition is aptly named as she will offer more places to discover during her inaugural season to Europe, the Caribbean, South America and the Californian coastline. She will set sail from November 2021 with a one-week Mediterranean and the Aegean Sea itinerary.
Jan Swartz, Princess Cruises’ President, says:
“Discovery Princess will take our guests on the most memorable vacations of their lifetimes, introducing them to new sights, new cultures and new experiences onboard every voyage.”
The ship will also be the first in the cruise fleet to be based on the West Coast on the U.S., sailing out of Los Angeles after her inaugural sailing season. Swartz continued:
“We’re proud to mark a major milestone basing our newest ship on the West Coast.”
There are 30 departures included in Discovery Princess’ inaugural season, including 21 unique itineraries to more than 50 destinations in 23 countries. Starting with four Mediterranean sailings ranging from seven to 21 nights, followed by four Caribbean sailings out of Fort Lauderdale with options varying from four, eight or 16 nights.
Discovery Princess will then make her way across the Atlantic to South America with six itineraries, one of which is a 50-night voyage from Fort Lauderdale around the continent’s coast and ending in Los Angeles. Thus ends the ship’s inaugural season and, starting 1st March 2021, Discovery Princess will offer Mexican Riviera and California Coast sailings.
